Jaguar to Take Aim at Entry Level Luxury Sedans

Jaguar is definitely on a roll these days. With parent company Ford providing capital and a parts bin to minimize costs, new products are now sharing platforms. The new S-Type sedan, designed to take on BMW’s 5 Series, the Mercedes E Class and the Lexus GS 300/400, is sharing much of what is under the skin with Lincoln’s new LS Sedans. The next new vehicle that we will see from Jaguar is code named the X400. It will share its platform with the Mondeo (Contour) and will be positioned to take on entry level luxury sport sedans such as the BMW 3 Series, the Mercedes C Class and the Audi A4. A 2.0 DOHC four and a 2.5 litre Duratec V6 are likely to be the two engines offered. To differentiate itself, the X400 will have the benefit of all wheel drive on all models. The appearance of the baby Jag is a little more mainstream then we have come to expect from Jaguar but it should significantly boost total vehicle production and make the company a significant player in all levels of the luxury car market.
