Toyota Solara Convertible to Add to the Regions’ Economic Fortunes

The long awaited and highly touted Toyota Solara is now on the street. First shown in concept form as a convertible, the production car arrived as a coupe. The drop top version is due in showrooms early next year. As a coupe, the Solara is really quite conservative but removing the overhead steel gives this car a whole new identity. The Solara is a fine car, well built and delivering on all of Toyota’s trademark values. It is smooth, refined and well priced. Lets not forget that it is built right here in Cambridge and provides employment for many of our neighbors. American Sunroof Company (ASC) will actually assist with the convertible. This company has been a subcontractor to many of the manufacturers who want to turn coupes into sexy ragtops. They are presently setting up shop nearby and will be shipped the unfinished body shell. The top will be removed and additional structural support will be added. Once completed, it goes back to the Toyota plant it goes for testing and inspection. One can appreciate the effort involved in this process which will be reflected in the price. My guess is that the convertible will add about $10,000 to the price of the car. But when seated behind the wheel on a beautiful summer day, money will probably be the last thing on your mind.
