Acura MDX Upgraded With New Styling, More Power, Features And New Tech Package
TORONTO (October 14, 2003) - The award-winning Acura MDX has received major upgrades for the 2004 model year. A segment leader since its introductionin 2001, the latest version has raised the luxury, safety and performance standard yet again with increased horsepower, more features and a new "TechPackage."
The class-leading powertrain delivers 265 horsepower from a 3.5-litre VTECV6 engine. Output of the 2004 model has been increased by 5 horsepower andan additional 3 lb.-ft. of torque. The increased power is made possible bya new dual exhaust system that improves exhaust flow yet surpasses the stringent 2004 Tier-2 emission regulations.
To help maintain its leadership position in an ever-growing field of competitors, the MDX also receives styling updates for 2004. Adding to thenew dual exhaust, the 2004 MDX has a new front- and rear-fascia that includes bumpers and lights. A new wheel design completes the performance look.
The MDX is equipped with a long list of standard features, including auto on/off headlights, roof rack, three rows of seating, automatic climate control, speed- and rain-sensing windshield wipers and a complete trip computer. For 2004, the list of features has been lengthened with anoptional "Tech Package." For $5,300, the package adds the following:
- Acura satellite Navigation System with English/French Voice Guidance and Recognition
- In-dash DVD Rear Entertainment System with 7-inch LCD flip-down screen
- Rear-view back-up camera
The interior was also upgraded with new seat leather, power driver lumbar support and ambient blue lighting to the MDX's luxurious, welcoming cabin. The Acura/Bose Audio System has been upgraded with a more powerful amplifier and complemented with a front acoustic windshield. There also is added insulation to further improve NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness) factors.
For the luxury SUV buyer, safety is an important concern. As such, the MDX is equipped with ABS, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), a Traction Control System (TCS) and Acura's VTM-4 four-wheel drive. MDX passengers are also provided with driver and front passenger airbags, and driver and front passenger side airbags with front passenger Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS).
For 2004, additional safety features have been added with standard side curtain airbags and a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). Acura's TPMS monitors each of the MDX's tires individually and alerts the driver througha display in the instrument panel, specifying which tire should be serviced immediately.
The 2004 MDX will be available at Acura dealerships October 16 and will have a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price of $50,300.
