SUBARUS RICHARD WINS RALLYE INTERNATIONAL de QUEBEC
Reigning Canadian Rally Champion Pat Richard won the Rallye International de Québec, near Québec City. Richard finished more than three minutes ahead of six-time U.S. Champion Paul Choiniere in spite of running a good part of the last stage on a flat tire.
Andrew Comrie-Picard took third place in a Mitsubishi Lancer EVO, hard on the heels of Choinieres Hyundai Tiburon. Five-time Canadian champion, and current North American title-holder, Subarus Tom McGeer, was an early podium contender until transmission problems dropped him into fifth position overall.
"This is probably the most satisfying win of my career," said Richard. "It was an extremely challenging event and, although I was worried about damage to the differential while running on a flat tire, the car held together!"
Subarus John Paynter finished sixth overall, taking first place in the Production Class.
The third event in the 2003 Subaru Canadian Rally Championship is the Bighorn Rally near Edson, Alberta, which begins on May 17.
